The objective is to emphasize the vital role of pharmacists within the multidisciplinary healthcare team by delivering pharmaceutical care that ensures patient safety and maximizes therapeutic outcomes.
The initiative focuses on advancing the profession through the following 7 strategic goals:
1: Education
To serve as a reliable source of pharmaceutical information for patients and the general public through various channels such as websites, newsletters, or online consultations with expert pharmacists. Educational initiatives will be developed to align with current public health situations, including continuing education activities via academic conferences and training opportunities for pharmacy students. Additionally, academic conferences will be organized for oncology pharmacists, including international participants from countries such as Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, and Vietnam (CLMV), as well as other regions. The goal also includes supporting certificate and diploma training programs for pharmacists and support staff working in chemotherapy preparation units, ensuring they possess the knowledge and understanding necessary to promote cancer prevention, treatment, and optimal therapeutic outcomes while minimizing costs associated with medication-related problems.
2: Safe Handling
To promote collaboration with relevant organizations to establish and annually update the practical and implementable standardized protocols for the storage, preparation, and disposal of hazardous and cytotoxic drugs. The initiative also aims to enhance the competencies of pharmacists involved in aseptic and chemotherapy preparation, including those with no prior training and those requiring skills refreshment. Furthermore, skill-building workshops in aseptic compounding will be organized for pharmacy students.
3: Oncology Pharmacy Practice
To advance the standards of oncology patient care based on evidence-based and widely accepted clinical practice guidelines. Current and up-to-date clinical and medical information were implemented to support clinical decision-making, aiming to improve treatment outcomes and reduce the overall cost of cancer care.
4: Pharmacy Informatics
To enhance patient care process efficiency, improve patient safety, and raise the quality of pharmacy services through the integration of informatics and digital tools.
5: Research
To provide research grant for pharmacists conducting studies related to cancer prevention, treatment, and palliative care in oncology patients.
6: "Link Up (Collaboration and Partnerships)"
To foster collaboration with national and international cancer care organizations such as the Thai Society of Clinical Oncology (TSCO), the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) and the International Society of Oncology Pharmacy Practitioners (ISOPP) aiming to promote and develop oncology pharmacy practice standards in Thailand and support policy-level initiatives to ensure the appropriate use of cancer medications.
7: Leadership
To encourage and support leadership development among pharmacists involved in cancer patient care.
